Hi all, I am looking for opinions not hard facts (gasp!) in regards to the Nagoya UT-72 and UT-72G antennas. I will be mounting the antenna to my car roof to pair with a Retevis RA25 GMRS mobile radio. My primary concern is GMRS rx/tx, but it would be nice to have decent rx for local 130-139 MHz (fire, police, etc.) for my enjoyment.For 98% of commercial users and 90% of amateur, you will never notice the difference between a 1/4 (0 dBd) antenna and a 5/8 (+ 3 dBd) antenna on VHF. For the money, a NMO 1/4 wave, VHF antenna from Laird or Larsen costs between $7 and $18 and will be the most universal for the average person running the spectrum. I have a UT-72 which I originally bought for my MURS radios. I see now there is a UT-72G, but wanted to see about trimming mine to make it match the frequencies closer. On GMRS 15 simplex I'm getting a 1.01 SWR and on the +5 repeater offset it's 1.81.
